I am pleased to know of the support you give to women of colour in the business and work environment, and your work to create and celebrate vital role models through your awards.”

Saira Hussain was announced the winner at the 12th Annual PRECIOUS Awards which took place on 27th September 2018 at The Royal Horseguards Hotel, London. This was a black tie gala evening, celebrating success stories in sumptuous surroundings.

Saira Hussain said: ‘I am surprised and honoured to win this award!!! My desire is to deliver architecture that is

considerate of, but challenges, it’s brief as well as its context both strategically and spatially; that is both enjoyable and easy use, something that provides a beautiful experience and visual delight.

Making a place as well as a building that works well within these criteria is crucial to ensuring its longevity, but also what defines its architecture.

I very much believe in different methods of working as this provides a better understanding of the problem as well as the solution. Whether through hand sketching, CAD drafting, modelling both physically and digitally it can only serve to help integrate the project and in the end ensure that the best and most appropriate resolution can be achieved.

I am a strong believer in sustainable design and contributing to an improved future through the use of clean technology. Suitability applied in all aspects of life as is critical to our future. We only have one earth. We must find ways to reduce our harmful impact on the environment.

I was always told that the Construction industry was ‘no place for a woman’ and I understand that women make up only 11% of the industry, facing massive barriers on a daily basis however I feel both the image and culture of construction is slowly changing and as a woman I will continue to work towards fighting for better conditions and more flexible working policies that allow both men and women with other responsibilities to work within the industry. I’ve recently started to carry out design classes/talks in schools & colleges to encourage young females to join the industry.’

HAD have recently expanded in Manchester.
